DESSERTS
BLUES AND REDS SMOOTHIE
Celebrate America’s birthday with a taste of independence. Combining two of our classic flavors – reds and blues – these popsicles are fireworks of flavor. Our blues smoothie brings a tropical twist thanks to the pineapple and kiwi, while reds adds a classic fruity hit thanks to the strawberry and banana double punch.
The base of these popsicles is yogurt – go for plain or natural as it’ll also serve as the white layer in our red, white and blue pattern. Naturally high in protein, yogurt also adds creaminess and tanginess. These celebratory popsicles don’t just look good, they’re good for you too – both blues and reds are packed with vitamin C and gut-friendly fiber.
Don’t forget to make these popsicles 4 - 5 hours before you want to eat them. We like to make them the night before, so they’re ready to pull out post-barbecue (and beers!).
This recipe takes just 10 minutes to prepare before they're ready for the freezer.
Ingredients
2 cups of yogurt (plain or vanilla)
1 packet of reds
1 packet of blues
Optional: liquid sweetener like honey or maple syrup
Popsicle molds and popsicle sticks
Instructions
Grab yourself three small bowls. In one bowl, mix ⅔ cup of yogurt with reds. In the other bowl, mix another ⅔ cup of yogurt with tropical blues. Leave the remaining ⅔ cup of yogurt plain. If you’re using a natural yogurt, rather than a vanilla one, you might want to add some liquid sweetener to the yogurt.
In your popsicle molds, add a layer of your reds yogurt so it fills about ⅓ of the mold, then add a layer of plain yogurt, then finish up the popsicle with a layer of blues yogurt.
Insert a popsicle stick and repeat the process for all the molds. Depending on the size of your molds, this recipe should make 4 - 6 popsicles. If you’re hosting a big party, it’s easy enough to double or even triple the recipe.
Freeze your popsicles for 5 hours or overnight.
Enjoy!
